The Big 12 Championship in college golf was held at the Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, which is a favorite golf course located near Kansas City. The Oklahoma men’s golf team dominated the tournament with a wire-to-wire victory, repeating as league champion with an impressive 18-stroke win.
The Sooners set a program record for a four-round tournament and also set a Big 12 record at Prairie Dunes by 10 shots, finishing 1 under. The team's scores were 275-279-284-281, and they are currently ranked 10th. TCU finished in second place at 17 over, followed by Texas Tech (21 over), Texas (23 over) and Oklahoma State (24 over).
“This one was extra special because we got to enjoy the walk a little bit more on the back nine there with the lead," said OU coach Ryan Hybl. “To shoot under par at Prairie Dunes over four rounds with five guys is really special.”
Texas Tech’s Ludvig Aberg won the individual title, finishing at 15 under. He was followed by OSU’s Jonas Baumgartner (7 under), Texas’ Brian Stark (6 under), OU’s Patrick Welch (2 under) and OU’s Drew Goodman (E).
OU will be hosting an NCAA regional tournament from May 15-17 at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman. The top five teams at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The No. 22 Oklahoma State women’s golf team, winners of the Pac-12 women’s golf title, will compete as the fourth seed at the NCAA San Antonio Regional at TPC San Antonio from May 8-10. Meanwhile, OU women’s golfer Mikhaela Fortuna was selected to participate as an individual in the NCAA Athens Regional, which will be held from May 8-10 at the UGA Golf Course.
